The World's Greatest Job!
Zane Lamprey may have to relinquish his reign over the only reality show worth watching, writes Will Siss of the Republican-American. When MojoHD, the cable channel which originally carried "Three Sheets," folded, Zane began pitching the show to other networks.
The final episode of the as-yet-unaired 4th season was shot in Amsterdam and paid for by InDemand, the company that owned MojoHD. Siss spoke to Zane by phone recently.
"I'm known as the traveling guy," Zane said. "It's sort of a blessing and curse. Having been an actor not working for years, piecing together jobs, I'm not looking this gift horse in the mouth."Filming for Season 4 brought Zane to New Zealand, Tanzania, Namibia, Greece, St. Maarten, and Iceland, among other distant lands. He said the friendliest places were Ireland, where he learned about whiskey distillation and "sobered up" on Irish coffee, and the Philippines, where he drank 166-proof Lambanog, an alcohol made from distilled coconut tree sap.
Unlike some food show hosts that shall go un-named, Zane doesn't act like a know-it-all. He often disdains the formalities that surround alcohol: in one episode he mixed a top-shelf rum with fruit juice and in another he coaxed an expert into chugging a glass of Cristal, two apparently cardinal sins. And although he appears to consume copious amounts of alcohol on the show, Zane never appears drunk and for the most part keeps his cool during his interviews.
"I'm always aware of the camera, of what I have to do next, and what I have to do the next day," he said. "I'll ride two to three drinks an hour, to the point where I'm buzzed and happy. I'm having fun, but I have a job to do."
And how long will he have this job? "A network would be stupid not to pick up the show," Zane said. "It's worked for three seasons."Source: Republican-American
